USO Fort Hood

Located in the heart of “The Great Place”, USO Fort Hood is the longest serving USO center on a stateside military base. Opened in 2001 on the country’s largest military base, USO Fort Hood delivers programs and services to more than 40,000 service members and their families; programs like United Through Reading® Military Program, Operation USO Care Package, Operation Phone Home and Operation Enduring Care.

USO Fort Hood is open 7 days a week and never stops offering service and care to its visitors. In 2006, the center relocated to the 1941 WW II barracks building, a 4,400 square foot space that also houses a museum with historical artifacts. Other comforting amenities offered at USO Fort Hood include a video game room, 16 seat movie theater, arcade, cyber café’ with free WiFi, phone access, kitchen, snack bar and lounge.

USO Fort Hood provided essential, round-the-clock support to the Fort Hood community in the wake of the recent shootings and in the recovery that followed. Along with two USO Mobiles, USO Fort Hood provided hot meals, a safe haven and a shoulder to cry on during this especially difficult time. Working with the military command, the USO gave emotional and physical support to the entire community.

Community Strong

The USO, with the support of Fort Hood MWR and AAFES, welcomed thousands to the base on Friday, December 11, for "Fort Hood Community Strong," a star-studded day of healing, fun and entertainment open to the general public. In the wake of the November 5 incident, this community pulled together to support America’s service members and their families, with USO Fort Hood playing an integral part in providing services on the spot.

To celebrate that spirit of camaraderie and assist the healing process, "Fort Hood Community Strong" came together with the support of many individuals, businesses and organizations. Dana Carvey, Gary Sinise and the LT Dan Band - along with singer Aaron Lewis of Staind, rapper Chamillionaire, Nick Jonas, Mallory Lewis and Lambchop, and the Zac Brown Band - made up the entertainment lineup at Fort Hood Stadium. Elsewhere, carnival rides, free food and a fun run gave troops, family members and local citizens the opportunity to laugh, sing, dance and take a few more steps down the road to recovery.
