The USO and United Through Reading® Reach 50,000 Recordings |

|

More than 50 deploying troops will be on hand to help the USO celebrate the 50,000th United Through Reading® Military Program recording. With an average of 3,700 recordings per month at USO centers in 2009, United Through Reading program participation is expected to reach 100,000 by early 2010. This program is offered at more than 60 USO centers worldwide as part of a three-year partnership between the USO and United Through Reading.
This partnership keeps families connected during deployments. Service members read children’s books aloud on DVD. A copy of the book, DVD and instructions are mailed to the child and family back home. The parent at home is encouraged to photograph the child as he or she is watching the DVD and following along with the book. This keepsake is then sent back to the deployed service member.
