Rocky Mountain USO - Denver International Airport

The Rocky Mountain USO at Denver International Airport is a restful lounge for traveling active duty service members and their dependants. Opened in Nov. 2005, this center works closely with Buckley Air Force Base and the Air and Army National Guard to offer support and events to the Colorado military community. Rocky Mountain USO-Denver International Airport’s three employees and more than 215 volunteers assist troops and their families with deployments, homecomings and entertainment events.

Approximately 100,000 troops and dependents visit the 5,000-square-foot facility each year. The center offers a snack bar, family play area, sleeping room, computers with Internet access, a United Through Reading® Military Program taping area, gaming consoles, telephone kiosks, reading materials and toiletries. The center’s addition of more than 7,000 feet of storage space has greatly improved Rocky Mountain USO-Denver International Airport’s ability to maintain stock and accept in-kind donations.

Knitting for the Troops

Knitting for Our Troops is a unique program that the Rocky Mountain USO-Denver International Airport center offers. In conjunction with the Denver Public Library System and the Fresh City Life organization, volunteers knit items that are sent to service members overseas. Currently, volunteer knitters use a full helmet liner pattern that is worn under a helmet during cold nights on or off duty. This program offers a tangible way for the Denver community to support the troops. To date, volunteer knitters throughout the Denver metro area have hand-knitted more than 10,000 headliner caps, and on July 20, 2009, the Knitting for Our Troops program was saluted with a public proclamation.

Knitting for Our Troops
is a great way to say how much Rocky Mountain USO-Denver International Airport cares for service men and women. The enthusiasm of knitters and troops alike has been overwhelming. These hand-crafted symbols of love and appreciation show our troops how much the Rocky Mountain USO and the Colorado community honor their service.
